Not many hotels boast such a fascinating historical background as the Veneto Hotel, originally built in the 14th Century as the residence for the local major who was overseeing the construction of the town's Venetian fortress (a stone-throw away). Years later it became the property of a rich lord and in the 20th Century it was bestowed by the Greek government on the grandfather of the present owner as recognition for his participation in the Macedonian rebellion. Carefully restored with respect to its architecture and history, this elegant 3-storey building stands in the heart of the old town of Rethymnon, minutes walk from the beautiful Venetian harbour and its fish tavernas. There's a wide selection of shops, restaurants and bars almost on your doorstep and the town's large sandy beach is about 5mins walk away. With just 6 studios and 4 suites, all slightly different in size and character, the Veneto is
a friendly holiday choice with a homely atmosphere. A picturesque courtyard at the back of the building invites guests to relax with a drink or enjoy a meal in the excellent restaurant - an ideal setting for a wedding reception if you have nuptial plans in mind!
